The Free Indological Collection

The Free Indological Collection (TFIC) contains thousands of rare and valuable books on all areas of Indology including art and culture, literature, history, scriptures, ethics, music, philosophy etc. Most books are in Sanskrit and some are translations of important Sanskrit works. TFIC comes from multiple sources and includes the work of many people. Most of it was compiled over many years by different teams and/or individuals, who were working separately at different sites. The TFIC team is now putting these compilations together and adding new books from other sources. Some of these books are regional printings not well known outside the corresponding region of India. Sources for these books include:
  • Scans of out of copyright books made by us or our respective past team members
  • Ancient Sanskrit books we and/or our past and current teams typed and encoded into a digital format from scratch
  • Books placed in the public domain but in generally unreachable or inaccessible or unreliable or now defunct digital repositories
  • Out of print multi-volume sets whose individual volumes are held by different libraries and all volumes aren't available in a single place or are misclassified but located, cleaned and compiled in one place by the TFIC team.
  • Books available in inconvenient formats such as single page images or in pieces in different repositories that we compiled and post-processed and so on.

Between 2000-3000 books will soon become available at the TFIC collection page.

The Vishnu Purana is one of eighteen Maha Puranas. It is considered one of the most important Puranas and has been given the name Puranaratna (gem of Puranas). Presented as a dialogue between Parashara and his disciple Maitreya and divided into six parts, the major topics discussed include creation of the universe, stories of the avatars (divine descents) of Vishnu, etc. Conforming to the Puranic tradition, Vishnu Purana also expounds the most sublime Vedantic truths through stories.

Next to the heros of the Puranas, no name is more familiar to Indians than that of Chanakya (4th century BCE) or as he is otherwise known, Kautilya or Visnugupta. Throughout the whole of India, nitis or wise sayings attributed to him, are even now taught to students. The very fact that this universal adoration is paid to his memory, shows that Kautilya was in his own days regarded as a master, whose worldly wisdom and foresight gained for him the veneration of his comtemporaries. This book is a...

265 thought provoking parables culled from the complete works of Swami Rama Tirtha (In Woods of God Realisation Volumes 1 to 8). While going through the Complete Works of Swami Rama, âIn Woods of God Realizationâ one is struck with the vast number of simple stories, so profusely used by Swami Rama to illustrate the highest teaching of Vedanta. The most difficult and intricate problems of philosophy and abstract truths, which may very well tax the brains of the most intellectual, are thus made...
